The PIARN webinars are a series of online, interactive presentations on climate adaptation in the primary industries. They are presented by PIARN leaders together with key representatives of the primary industries.
Webinars are free and open to anyone with an interest in the topic.
You will need computer and telephone access to participate in the webinar.

Sustainable intensification of agriculture: producing more with less
Presented by Professor Tim Reeves and Associate Professor Richard Eckard
Thursday 10 November 2011, 2.30 – 3.30 pm (AEDT)
Sustainable intensification of means producing more food from less land, with less water and with less reliance on increasingly expensive inputs derived from fossil fuels – whilst simultaneously protecting and enhancing natural resources and ecosystems.
Experts suggest it might be the only way to feed a rapidly growing world population without the environmental degradation typically associated with increasing agricultural production.
Professor Tim Reeves and Associate Professor Richard Eckard framed the challenge of creating a sustainably intensive Australian agriculture industry, discussing the implications for food security, the research and development investment required and the sorts of transformations needed to put sustainable intensification into action.

Four degrees or more: Australian agriculture in a much warmer world
Presented by Dr Mark Howden (CSIRO) and Professor Peter Grace (Queensland University of Technology)
14 July 2011, 2.30 – 3.30 pm (AEST)
If the pledges made by world leaders at the Copenhagen climate summit to cut emissions are honoured, we can expect an average warming of four degrees or more. So what might Australian agriculture look like then?
Mark Howden presented a condensed version of his presentation from the Four Degrees or More Conference, detailing the impacts of an average temperature increase of four degrees. Peter Grace outlined some of the mitigation challenges that would face the agricultural industry under such a scenario.
PowerPoint presentation files and Mark Howden's paper are available to download from the PIARN resource library.
