Adaptation Research Call for Primary Industries: an update

By Frank Stadler, NCCARF Research Coordinator

The Adaptation Research Call for Primary Industries administered by the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility (NCCARF) closed on 14 March 2011.  NCCARF received 82 Expressions of Interest, requesting a total of $26 million in grant funding.

The research projects proposed mainly addressed Priority Research Area 1 (adaptive capacity in the primary industries) and Priority Research Area 2 (transformational change). There were fewer proposals submitted for research into Priority Research Area 3 (integrated adaptation responses at local, landscape and regional scales). A number of projects were cross-cutting in their approach and addressed several of the Priority Research Areas.

Projects ranged from industry specific issues to the development of tools, models, communication strategies, and broader conceptual approaches to adaptive capacity, transformation and integrated adaptation responses.

The independent Science Review Panel for the research call assessed the applications and invited those determined to be best, according to the selection criteria, to provide a full proposal by 4 May 2011.

The next Adaptation Research Grant to be announced will be for Freshwater Biodiversity. For more information on Adaptation Research Grants please visit the NCCARF website or contact the research team.
